Slave for the Day- Last Minute Father's Day Gift Idea

How did it become Father's Day already? Are any of you like me and let Father's Day slip up on you?
If so, I have the perfect solution! Here is a FREE, fun, and easy gift for your kiddos to give their Dad. What Dad wouldn't want a personal slave for the day, right?

Simple print out our Free Printable and have your kids check the boxes with the things they are willing to do for their Dad on Father's Day!

My personal favorite is the Valet Parking! (J.K.!) I thought Dads would get a kick out of that. Although our dad's personal favorites will be the scalp massage and foot rub.

Be sure to have lots of yummy drinks and snacks on hand, throw in a yummy breakfast and you have a Father's Day celebration that will make Dad feel like the King he is! And won't it be fun to watch your kids serve the man that is always doing so much for them!

Be sure and take lots of photos.

Here are some other ideas from past years:

Dad will have to use the red cellophane heart as a super cool decoder to read the code key and decipher the message

Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree

I just made this cute popcorn gift for my nursery kids. They love the song "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree" and I love this delicious cinnamon bun popcorn from Our Best Bites. And what do you know, the two go together perfectly!

I think sometimes the little ones get left out of all the excitement over the end of the school year and all the gifts, parties and celebrations that go with it. I didn't want my cuties to feel bad so I am going to surprise them with their own special delivery.

Just whip up the popcorn, put it in a cellophane bag and attach the tag.

I think it is perfect to brighten just about anyone's day!

Here is the Tag.

Here are some tree pictures we are going to glue popcorn on in Nursery in the next few weeks.

(If you are going to use glue with Toddlers..... I recommend pouring some glue in a bowl and giving each toddler a Q-Tip. It contains the mess and is still lots of fun. Just a word to the wise. )

Candy Graduation Caps

Every year I make these cute candy caps for all the seniors graduating in our neighborhood. I personalize each tassel using the colors of the school. Most of the kids are graduating from American Fork High School this year. Go Cavemen! Their colors are red and black so I made the tassels red.

I kept the printable in black and white so that you could attach it to some colored paper in the colors of your school.

Here are all the supplies that you need:

* Reeses Peanut Butter Cups for the Base- You can use either miniature or snack size depending on the size of the cookie you use for the mortar board.
* Fudge Covered Grahams for the Mortar Board. These homestyle ones I got are quite large so I used the snack size Reeses. Usually I get the Keebler Fudge Covered Graham Cookies. They are a little smaller so I use the Miniature Reeses.
*Chocolate Frosting- To glue everything together.
*Roll-ups in the Colors of your School.

First stick the cookie and Reeses together with frosting.

Then work on the Tassel. I cut strips out of my Fruit Roll Up about 3 inches long. Then I roll up one end very tightly. I fan out the other end and cut fringe into it with scissors.

Attach the Tassel with some more frosting and you are done. Then wrap them up cute and attach the tag!
This is a fun, easy gift and a great way to surprise your babysitter, the boy who mows your lawn or any other graduates in your life. Not your KIDS, of course! You aren't as old as me!!

Easter Tag

I just made this cute Easter tag and I thought it would make a fun gift attached to any size chocolate bunny.

Like this

or this

or especially this! Yum!

I couldn't trust myself to actually buy any of these chocolate bunnies and attach the tag. I couldn't be left alone with this much chocolate.
So you will have to experiment yourself and see how cute this tag can be.

One of my daughters works at Chick-Fil-A and I was thinking of the funny chick-fil-a cows when I made this tag.

(Also, for the purpose of full disclosure, I do not like Peeps!)

Share this cute tag and some yummy chocolate with your Peeps today!!

Print this tag here.

Letter of the Week {Xx}

Here is the next installment of our letter of the week series-- the letter Xx. The letter X can be challenging. It is so easy to identify but hard to think of what activities to do with this letter.  Check out the great things we came up with below. See all the rest of our letter of the week posts here.

Snack Ideas

How about making some hot cross buns!

Or look at all the cute X ideas at Cookie Cutter Lunch.

Books
I love the Taxi Dog and books about X-rays are always fun.

Crafts
My favorite is this cute X-ray Fish Activity by Red Ted Art.  And look at this adorable Q-Tip Skeleton.

Instructions for this simple handprint x-ray activity can be found at Almost Unschoolers.

Learning Activities

Try this Criss Cross Chalk Game.
Draw a large letter X on the pavement with chalk then have the children position themselves on the end of each line. They have to run along the X without bumping into each other at the intersection.

Play a game of Tic Tac Toe.

Follow a Treasure Map- X Marks the Spot.

Make an X on a piece of paper with Painters Tape. Then completely cover the piece of paper with paint. Let the paint dry and remove the tape to reveal the hidden Letter X below.

Practice playing a xylophone. You could even play musical chairs using a xylophone for the music. Let the kids take turns.

Set up a doctor's office and have the kids practice taking x-rays. You can make a simple x-ray machine by cutting holes in a cardboard box and gluing cut outs of bones on the front.

The Measured Mom has instructions for making this amazing x-ray light box. Wow!

Native American Indian Projects

We recently finished up our Native American Indian unit at school. Here is a sampling of my favorite projects from that unit.

Indian Dioramas
The students were divided into groups to create some Indian Dioramas. They were to research their assigned tribe and then create a diorama that illustrated the following four things:
The Place the Tribe Lived
Their Houses (Hogans, Long Houses, Tepees etc.)
Their Clothing
Their Food
I provided scrapbooking paper and clay to help the students get started. I think the addition of the specialty papers with sky, sand, forests etc. really helped get their creative juices going. Everything else the students created with materials from home. Aren't you impressed?

 Pueblo Indian Tribe

Iroquois Indian Tribe

 Navajo Indian Tribe

Sioux Indian Tribe

We followed a fantastic tutorial by There's a Dragon in my Art Room. Click on the link above. The kids were crazy about this project and several students created two or three different headbands, arm bands, bracelets etc. We used meat trays donated by our local Fresh Market meat department. They worked out great.

Indian Cave Drawings
Here are some of our cave drawings. Each of the students had to tell a story using the Indian symbols that I provided. They then wrote their story in a circle on a piece of large paper bag. Several of the students crumpled their bags to make them look more authentic!

Find a great printout of Native American picture symbols here.

Finally, here is a gorgeous Sacajawea puppet made by one of my students.
