Letter of the Week {Ww}

We are finally getting around to finishing our letter of the week posts. Here are some fun activities for you to do with the letter Ww. Stay tuned for X, Y, and Z in the next three weeks and find the rest of our Letter of the Week posts here.

Snack Ideas:

Watermelon is the most obvious choice. I love the idea of attaching popsicle sticks to make these watermelon wedges easy to hold.

You could also whip up a delicious watermelon fruit slush.

Or how about Waffles and Whipped Cream! It wouldn't get any easier than these mini Eggo Waffles. Yum!

Watermelon Seed Counting. I just use our leftover watermelon seeds from snack for counting. The kids love saving their seeds and washing them off before matching them to the correct watermelon in this fun and easy activity.

Water Activities:
You won't believe all the amazing activities to do with water over at The Measured Mom. Love them!

Water Math and Science Activities

I especially love her Water Balloon Math for Number Recognition.

And this fun activity to see what happens when different objects are left in the water for a period of time.

Letter of the Week {Vv}

Snack Ideas:

      * Veggies with Dip - I was honestly a little surprised the first time I set a bunch of cut up veggies in front of my preschoolers and they actually ate them! All you need is a variety of options and a little ranch dressing and I bet your preschooler will surprise you too.  

Favorite Books:

      * The Berenstain Bears Funny Valentine by Stan & Jan Berenstain

      * The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams

Crafts:

      * Vegetable Prints - These are so fun! All you need are some veggies of different shapes and sizes and some paint. Have your child dip the veggie in the paint however she chooses and make fun shapes on a piece of paper. I also love this one from whipup.net where she used different veggies cut in half. 

      * Vegetable Collage - I love this idea from The Measured Mom. It is also a great one for practicing cutting and gluing skills.

      * Letter Vv Vase - How cute is this letter V vase craft over at Creativity Takes Flight? 

Activities:

      * DIY Volcano - This doesn't have to be a super involved project, I've even just used a plain vase, baking soda, vinegar, and red food coloring before since the fun part is watching it erupt! You can take it a step farther though, like this example from Learning 4 Kids. Your little ones are sure to love it!

Letter of the Week {Uu}

Snack Ideas: 
      * Snacking Under the Table: U is another letter with not many (or really any?) food names. I always just picked a snack and let my students eat it Under the table! Any snack or meal is more fun when eaten this way...

Favorite Books:
      * Underwear by Mary Elisa Monsell - This one always leads to the best laughs! 

      * The Umbrella by Jan Brett

Crafts:
      *  Upside Down, Under the Table Art - All you need for this activity are some markers, paper, and tape. Just tape the paper underneath a low table or chair and let your child enjoy some unusual drawing. It always leaves my kids giggling.

      *How cute is this Umbrella Art made out of cupcake liners and pipe cleaners?! 

Activities:

       * I love this Umbrella Counting Activity from The Iowa Farmer's Wife. 

       * U Toss! I love this idea from A Mom With a Lesson Plan. So fun and easy to put together with items you already have!

Preschool Activities: Letter of the Week {Ss}

Whew! I'm back! After a super fun and busy summer, I'm excited to be back into a routine. And, I'm excited to share with you the rest of the alphabet letters in my Preschool Letter of the Week series of posts!

Snack Ideas:
      * Stone Soup - I made this soup every year for my preschool students, and it was always a hit! Read the book Stone Soup while you add the ingredients to the pot - my preschoolers were always just as amazed as the characters in the book at how yummy this soup (made only from a stone!) turns out! ;) Find the recipe and directions {here}.

      * Dried Strawberries: I usually dry these in my food dehydrator and my kids literally eat them like candy! You can find instructions for making them in the oven {here} from World Wide Gourmet.

Favorite Books:
      * Stone Soup: There are so many versions of this fun story, but every version I've read to my kids has been a favorite. Don't forget to use the recipe above to make your own stone soup!

      * The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats

Crafts:
      * Tissue Paper Snail: How cute is this snail over at No Time For Flashcards? Preschoolers LOVE glue. :)

      * Ss is for Star! Just draw the letter s on a piece of paper, and give your child a page of star stickers! Simple, but fun!

      * Snake Shapes! I thought this page from Danielle's Place would be a fun way to review shapes. You can print it for free {here}

Activities:

       * Homemade Slime! At camp we called it gak, but this fun gooey stretchy stuff would make great letter s slime too! This was an absolute favorite at camp and my kids are still playing with it! Find the recipe and instructions {here}!

     
      * Sticky Spider Web! How fun is the spider web made from painters tape over at Hands on: as we grow!? I'll definitely be trying this one with my preschooler this year!
