Last Hurrah of Summer QR Code Activity

It is August 1st and if you are like me you are thinking about back to school. Whether your kids start in a week and a half like my son or in three weeks like my daughter, you probably want to make the most of the time they have left. This is a QR Code Activity that I posted last year to help me plan one last hurrah! I wanted to spend the day with my kids doing those things that I knew we wouldn't have time to do once school starts. It was my way of sending  summer off in style.

This is the way that it works.
For every two hours during the day I have created QR Codes for two different activities to do as a family. The activities begin at 9 a.m. and end at 9 p.m. that night.
You choose one of the activities to do during each time frame (or you could do activities less often if you prefer. For example: 9 a.m. then again at 1:00 p.m. then 5:00 p.m. etc.)

Here are the choices (and the pictures for each choice.)

9:00 a.m.  Eating your favorite breakfast outside OR Going out to breakfast at a restaurant

11:00 a.m. Going to a park and having a picnic OR Packing your lunch and riding a bike somewhere fun to eat it

1:00 p.m. Swimming at the local pool OR Running through the sprinklers or having a water fight

3:00 p.m. Eating popsicles and reading a book OR Eating Ice Cream and watching a cartoon

5:00 p.m. Eating your favorite dinner on a blanket in the living room OR having a BBQ in the backyard

7:00 p.m Playing a board game OR Playing an active game as a family outside

9:00 p.m. Laying on a blanket and looking at the stars ORTelling scary stories with a flashlight on your face

Once you have chosen the activities that you want to do with your kids, you can play in one of two ways.
#1 Just print out the QR Codes.

This is the cheapest and easiest way to play, since the QR Codes are in black and white. Just cut out the QR Codes that you want to use. Put ONE in EACH envelope labeled with the time. Then hand the envelopes to your kids when they get up in the morning. They can use your smart phone, tablet or iPod to scan the QR codes with a QR code reader like QRAFTER PRO. This will tell them what activity they can do that hour. You won't believe their excitement as they wait for the picture to pop up on your phone!
Then you are off and running, having fun until it is time to open the next envelope.

#2. If you don't have a smart phone, you can print out each of the pictures shown above. Then you can choose which activity that you want to do and put that picture in an envelope for your kids to open. Either way they will love to play with you and create memories of a fun summer day that will last all year long.

Enjoy having one last Hurrah of Summer with your Kids! Next week I will be posting a fun QR Code Activity I created for the first day of school. So come back soon.

Easter Bunny Treasure Hunt with QR Codes

Here is a fun Easter Bunny Treasure Hunt with QR Codes. This treasure hunt is outside and culminates in a hidden treat in the trunk of a car.

Here are the places you will hide your QR Codes:

#1 Put this QR Code in a plastic egg and give it to your child.

#2 Hide this QR Code in a plastic egg up in a tree.

#3 Hide this QR Code in a plastic egg in a flower bed.

#4 Hide this QR Code in a plastic egg in a garden area.

#5 Hide this QR Code in a plastic egg near your front door.

#6 Hide this QR Code in a plastic egg near your back door.

#7 Hide this QR Code in a plastic egg in the mailbox.

#8 Hide this QR Code in the trunk of the car with a treat or with your child's Easter Basket.

You can use your child's Easter Basket as the prize at the end of the treasure hunt or you can include another fun Easter treat such as a chocolate bunny or Cadbury Eggs (my favorite!)

All you need is to print out the QR Codes and make sure that your phone or tablet has a QR Code reader. You can download one if you don't have one already. I like QrafterPro but there are lots of great QR Code readers out there.

Find the QR Codes here.

Find the Treasure Hunt pictures here if you want to do this same treasure hunt without QR Codes.

Spring Break Staycation with QR Codes

We have three different Spring Breaks around our house with different colleges, high schools and elementary school schedules. So going away for Spring Break isn't really possible this year. But I still want to do something to make the time off fun for my kids. Thus the Spring Break Staycation was born!

I have created 6 different theme day ideas.
We have:

Wizard Day
Pirate Day

Knight Day

Super Hero Day

Drama Day

And Pajama Party Day

You can choose to do all six days for your stay-cation or just a day or two to enliven your week. The idea is simple. On the morning of your special day, just put the QR code in an envelope or wrap it up in a fancy box. Let your kids open it and scan the QR Code with your smart phone or tablet. That's it!

I am serious! When the kids scan the day's QR Code, the fun picture will appear announcing the theme of the day. Then after they scroll down they will see a list of possible activities they can participate in that day. They can pick and choose the activities that they want to do or create some of their own and the fun begins! I wouldn't get anything ready ahead of time. This isn't some massive six-day birthday party that Mom has to put on for the kids!

Here is a list for the Wizard Day:
Make Magic Wands
Mix Magical Potions
Learn some Magic Tricks
Perform in a Magic Show
Create some original magic spells
Watch a movie about Wizards
Try some Trick Photography and make someone disappear
Make a fairy house outside with objects from Nature
Read a magical book
Write with magical disappearing ink
Make a wish on a magic star

Each list contains 10 to 15 possible activity ideas. The list is just a jump-start and some inspiration for having fun together. Don't shop ahead of time for any special foods or supplies. Taking the kids shopping to find the perfect foods for Pajama Party Day (in their pajamas, of course) is half the fun. Let the kids own it. Let them figure it out. Let them take it away. Trust me. That is half the fun.

If you don't have all the supplies needed, that is okay. Let them improvise. You will be amazed at what they come up with on their own. Good luck creating a memorable stay-cation at home this year. You may have so much fun that it becomes a tradition every year. Enjoy!

Here are the lists of Activities for each day if you want to go directly there without the QR Codes:

QR Code Valentines

I am so excited to share these cute QR Code Valentines with you today! You are absolutely going to love them.

(Now you don't ever have to feel like Charlie Brown!)

Each QR Code pulls up the funniest Valentine GIF. Check them out below. Even my teenagers are excited to pass these out to their friends.

The best part is that I have made the Valentines themselves in black and white. You know I love saving the money on printing. They are still super cute and you can attach some candy or something if you are really ambitious. Plus they look so hip and technologically savvy and all that! Your kids will be so popular if they give these out.

AND I love the mystery element. There are eight different Valentines to choose from with eight different QR Codes.

It makes me smile to think that everyone who receives one of these valentines will be racing home to find a smart phone with a QR Code reader.

I am CRAZY about you Valentine!

And if they can't find a smart phone, they will never know the answer to the mystery.... How do you feel about them? They Will Never Know! This fact makes it a mystery for the giver too. Will they be able to read it or won't they? That is half the fun.

I am Your BIGGEST Fan, Valentine!

Do you have any cute girls who would dare give out this Crush Valentine?

Don't you want to give this one to your kids?

You are my Favorite Minion!

There are some great ones for boys.

Dude, we are a Posse!
Happy Valentines Day.

I think you are the BOMB, Valentine!

And some great ones for girls.

We are Best Friends Forever!

There is even one for your hubby!

I Wuv You, Valentine!

Here is the link to all the Valentines.

Print them out on card stock paper and make sure you cut off the information in parenthesis that tells what Valentine it is! But don't do that until you have attached someone's name to it. Or you just might accidentally give the crush Valentine to the wrong boy and that would be awkward!

Happy Valentines to All  of YOU with Love!

Mystery Chore Rewards with QR Codes

January is a great time to revamp your chore system. I always feel the need to clean house and implement some changes in the new year. Here is a fun way to reward your kids for doing their chores. I left the logistics of the system up to you. You can decide how many chores your kids need to do to get the reward. Maybe you want to reward them less often or more often. Maybe you want them to work harder and do a better job on their chores. Or maybe you want them to stick to their jobs and get them done consistently. You will have to decide how to make these rewards work for you.

Here are the QR Code Rewards I have so far! I may just need to update this post with more possible rewards regularly.

1. Ice Cream Cone

2.  Movie Night

3. Late Bedtime

4. Date with Dad

5. Date with Mom

6. New Toy

7. New Game

8. New Book

9. Out to A Restaurant

10. Play Date with a Friend

All I can say is that these QR Codes will be rewarding. There is something about the mystery that drives kids crazy. They just have to earn the reward to find out what it is!!

Print out the QR Codes and laminate them for durability.  (Cut off the sentence that tells what the reward is, of course! That is just to help Mom know which rewards you want to use.)

Stick them in a cute jar with the label that I have provided and let the kids know what they have to do to earn a reward. Then kick up your feet and watch in wonder as the chores magically get done. Once the reward has been earned, let your kids draw a QR Code from the jar and use your smart phone or tablet to see their mystery prize! Doing work has never been so much fun!
