Elementary Activities: Pass-Along Monsters

by Deborah Pace Rowley
To Play: Fold a piece of paper into thirds horizontally. The first person takes the piece of paper and draws a head of a monster in the top section. Have them extend the neck of the monster over the fold in the paper so that the second person knows where to begin. Fold back the head so it is not visible and pass the piece of paper to the next person. The second person adds a monster body and arms. Extend the body over the fold in the paper so that the final person will know where to connect the legs. Fold back the body so that it isn’t visible and pass the piece of paper to the 3rd artist. The 3rd person will add the legs of the monster beginning where the lines extend onto the final third of the paper.  When the legs are finished, open up the paper and reveal your creation. You can start several pieces of paper at once, with each person beginning a head and then passing their piece of paper clockwise around the circle. Everyone will laugh when they see the hideous and hysterical monsters they have created together.
